The Dread Sled Linocut Print Process
The Art of Imperfection: Inside Our Linocut Print Process
At Dread Sled, we live for the raw, the real, and the hand-built — and our linocut prints are no exception. Every piece tells a story not just through design, but through process — the marks, textures, and small imperfections that make each print one-of-a-kind.
1. From Sketch to Block
It all starts with a rough idea — something pulled from garage life, motorcycle culture, or the chaos of the road. Once the concept feels right, it’s hand-drawn onto a linoleum block.
Every groove is carved by hand with traditional tools. One wrong cut changes everything, and that’s exactly what makes it art.
2. Inking the Block
After carving, we roll archival-quality ink across the surface with a brayer. Each roll picks up different textures, creating subtle variations that make every print unique.
The result: bold lines, rich blacks, and perfectly imperfect character.
3. The Press & The Pull
The inked block meets cloth under pressure — old-school style. When we peel the sheet back, the design comes to life in reverse: gritty, honest, and full of soul.
Every print shows the hand of the maker, proof that it was built, not bought.
4. Finishing & Stamping
Once dry, each piece is grommeted so they never wander. Rough edges? That’s the point.
Perfection is boring. We prefer character.
5. Why Linocut?
Because it’s real. Because it takes time. Because it leaves marks — on both the block and the artist.
In a world of copy-paste perfection, linocut printing stands as a reminder: the best things are made by hand.
Ride the Line. Print the Truth.
Each Dread Sled linocut print carries the same attitude as the bikes we love — hand-built, loud in spirit, and made to last.
Hang it in your garage, your workshop, or anywhere that deserves a little grit and soul.
